Floorball for Schools & Educational Institutions

Looking for a fun activity to complement your school programs?  Let us introduce you to floorball!

Floorball is a fast-paced, exciting, safe and low-cost type of indoor hockey.  At first glance, it resembles floor hockey or ball hockey but is played with advanced lightweight sticks and rules that make game play faster yet much safer.  Schools all across the country are incorporating floorball into their PE programs and after school activities.  You can play floorball anywhere there is a smooth surface – indoors or outside.  Gyms, basketball courts and sport courts are ideal locations.CAMPUS_action

What makes floorball so popular?

  • It’s Fun!  Everyone participates.
  • All age groups can play together.  Easily played co-ed.
  • You can be in any physical condition or have limited mobility to play.
  • It’s very inclusive.  Unlike other sports, with floorball, individual players generally cannot dominate play.  Everybody gets lots of ‘touches’.
  • Very safe
  • Rules designed with “safety first” in mind.
  • Equipment is light and easy to control.  Injuries are not an issue because the stick is made of a lightweight fiber with a plastic blade.  The ball is also plastic.
  • Body and stick checking are not permitted and playing of the ball or stick above the knee is illegal.
  • Easy to learn.  Can teach basic rules in 5 minutes.
  • LOW COST: Requires only sneakers, shorts, t-shirt, a ball and a stick to play.
  • Emphasis on speed, skill and technique over physical strength.

How do I incorporate floorball at my school?

  • Physical education classes
    • Appropriate for any age level – elementary, middle or high school.
    • Boys and girls play together.
    • Put a net at each end of a basketball court.  Use five or six field players without a goalie for lots of scoring.  Substitute players every 5 minutes as they will be running up and down the court!
    • Play cross-court to work on drills and skill development.
    • Excellent cardiovascular conditioning.  Improves hand-eye coordination and overall athleticism.

  • After-school programs
    • Perfect way to keep kids active during after-care programs!
    • Intramural and interscholastic competition
    • A great sport that fosters cooperation and team play
    • Form teams for inter-school and district play.
    • Consider using floorball as an excellent fund-raising activity.

  • Interscholastic Leagues and Tournaments
    • Sponsor a school team for regular league play
    • Let’s Play Floorball USA can help you start a league in your area
    • We are planning to organize the first-ever school state floorball championship in Texas in the Spring of 2012.  Stay tuned for details!

Floorball is also a wonderful addition to the sports programs at prep schools and colleges.  Ideal for club and intramural play, floorball is an exciting complement to traditional school activities.

For schools that field interscholastic teams such as football, hockey, lacrosse, baseball, basketball and volleyball, floorball is great for off-season training.  For some of the many benefits of including floorball in your sports programs, see the “Hockey Players” and “Hockey Assns”links on the “Floorball for..” drop-down tab above.
