The formation of the North American Floorball League (NAFL), the first professional floorball league in North America, was announced on August 1, 2020. Initially, the league was to commence its inaugural season in June 2021. However, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions from Europe, the first season was delayed until Summer 2022.
The NAFL played its inaugural season with 4 teams. It was played over the course of four weekends in June and July (with a bye week for World Games), with each team hosting the other teams in round robin play. The Florida Vikings were crowned 2022 Champions after defeating the Fort Worth Jaguars in the championship game. The Fresno Force came in 3rd with the Utah Raptors fourth.
In 2023, NAFL played with 6 teams. The Utah Raptors went on hiatus, the Texas Tornados was activated and new teams, Aviators Floorball of Ohio and Minnesota Growlers joined the league. The 2023 season was played over the course of three weeks in mid-July, with 3 of the teams hosting the others for round-robin play in their home venue. Each team played 10 regular season games. The top four teams advanced to the playoffs. The Florida Vikings again hoisted the Troy Cup and the Fresno Force was the runner-up.
For 2024 in the third season for the NAFL, 6 teams will compete. The Texas Tornados were renamed the Texas 39ers and the newly formed Seattle Sockeyes have taken the place of the Florida Vikings. Games will be played in Georgetown, Texas (a suburb of Austin) July 13-15 and in Clarksville, Tennessee (outside of Nashville) from July 18-21. The final games of the season and the championship round wil be played in Duluth, Minnesota from July 24-28, 2024. The finals will be a featured part of FinFest2024.
